Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2023 enters its second day, Tuesday (25/10/2022). It was the turn of As Far as the Eyes to See, which was under the direction of Chitra Subyakto to showcase his latest work. The collection, which consists of 29 looks, took to the stage at the demonstration titled 'Ode to Mother Earth' presented by Dewi's Luxe Market, which also featured designer Wilsen Willim's work as the opening act. 'Baur' is the latest offer from As far as the Eyes Sees at JFW 2023. It is named so because the material for this collection is made from a mixture of fashion waste left over from So far.

These materials include patchwork, dead stock fabrics, leftover fabrics from various exhibitions so far before, and recycled fabrics from clothes that are not fit for use (post-production textile waste).

To process everything, As far as Eyes Sees collaborates with Ecotouch ID based in Bandung. The material is recycled through various stages of the process. Starting from sorting materials, removing buttons and zippers, cutting, chopping, and finally returning to thread.

"The threads are then woven to produce a cloth in Pekalongan. Actually, this is a circular fashion concept. Everything revolves. We are learning to become a circular brand," said Founder and Creative Director As far as Eyes Viewed Chitra Subyakto before the demonstration.

The end result is a gray fabric that is thick and stiff, with a slightly rough texture resembling canvas or denim. However, in the hands of Chitra and the team, the fabric can be transformed into wearable clothing.

Many of them are present as outerwear that accompanies kebaya-cut clothing with a modern twist. Typical motifs as far as the eye can see such as chickens and waves still decorate.

Chitra also explored a bolder and more dramatic silhouette for the recycled material. The end result, avant-garde jackets that look like they're made of giant origami folds of paper.

"Through this collection, I want to convey that kebaya doesn't have to look too traditional. The interpretation and styling is very broad. It can even be displayed in an avant-garde nuance. Fashion is freedom, but there are people who adhere to the standards. But that's okay. Different is beautiful, the important thing is balance," said Chitra.

Chitra Subyakto founded As far as the Eyes Sees at the end of 2014 by carrying a slow fashion textile label that puts forward a circular business model and is more environmentally responsible.

"We have never made a statement that this brand is sustainable. Because in my personal opinion, there is no truly sustainable brand. Sustainable is very gray area. If we want to be sustainable, we should not wear clothes," said Chitra.
