The Indonesian Textile Association (API) noted that one of the causes of the decline in demand for garment products in Indonesia is the rise in sales of used or preloved clothes. This was conveyed by API Advisor Ade Sudrajat, Wednesday (2/11/2022). The figure who is also a garment entrepreneur admitted that the pressure on the garment industry occurred at the local to global level. One of the local pressures is the rampant sales of used clothing in the market.

"On the other hand, the flood of imported goods, especially used goods, has pushed MSMEs to survive, is very widespread and has started to become a trend, because there are many shops such as secondhand boutiques, these used goods are selected by certain brands and sold in boutiques, even becoming respectable goods. in society," he said.

Even though according to Ade, legally, the sale of imported used goods violates the rules, but there has never been any serious action from the government to eradicate the sale of these illegal goods.

"In fact, used goods have been banned from entering Indonesia since the 2000s, but people are powerless, so MSMEs, which used to be the backbone during a crisis, are now having trouble," he added.

In addition, the global pressure, said Ade, has been felt in the midst of skyrocketing inflation, food and energy crises in American and European countries.

"Global conditions are mostly caused by falling demand from Europe and America because countries in America and Europe are experiencing inflation, plus the energy and food crisis in Europe. energy spending because it is winter, they are holding back their purchases and eventually many supermarkets are closed," he explained.
