Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for Industry, Bobby Gafur Umar, asked the government to move quickly to overcome the domino effect of the global economic slowdown .The reason, he said, although it was still at the expansion level, Indonesia's manufacturing index in October 2022 was observed to fall from September 2022. The downward trend in demand that has fueled employee efficiency in labor-intensive sectors, namely the textile and textile product (TPT) to garment industries, must be the government's focus. Immediately take action, including protecting the domestic market.

Moreover, continued Bobby, in the future the threat of a global recession will still strengthen and cause the export market to shrink.

"Textile exports have decreased, furniture exports have also fallen a lot. Footwear too. The sector is labor-intensive. The government must immediately take action by safeguarding the domestic market," said Bobby, quoted on Thursday (10/11/2022).

"Yesterday there was Rp. 1,060 trillion in government expenditure. If the TKDN is only 40%, there are Rp. 400 trillion. If this is actually used to buy domestic products, there will be a big economic turnaround in the domestic market," he added.

The government expenditure budget, he said, must be maintained not to be filled with imported products.

"Trump has done America First. We can do the same. Prioritize Indonesian products," he said.

"Especially at this time, world textile players will enter Indonesia. Bangladesh, China. Because the world market is shrinking. This should be prevented," said Bobby.

Not to mention, he added, global economic uncertainty is still ahead next year.

"And it is estimated that in 2023 it is predicted to get worse," he said.

That way, he hopes, the wave of mass layoffs (PHK) will not get worse and trigger a vicious cycle. Which further erodes people's purchasing power, ultimately suppressing consumption in the domestic market.

"This vicious circle can be prevented from happening. Namely, with the right policy," said Bobby.
