Expedition company PT Lion Experss or Lion Parcel announced its collaboration with Setali Indonesia, a social enterprise that focuses on extending the life of clothing to overcome the problem of fashion waste with the upcycle process. This collaboration complements Lion Parcel's long-term commitment to implementing a more sustainable business. Kenny Kwanto, Chief Marketing Officer of Lion Parcel, revealed that fashion and apparel products were the most frequently shipped commodities by Lion Parcel in 2021. Unfortunately, this condition is directly proportional to textile and fashion waste which is a type of waste that is worrying.
According to SIPSN KLHK data (National Waste Management Information System, Ministry of Environment and Forestry) for 2021, Indonesia has produced 2.3 million tons of textile or fashion waste or the equivalent of 12% of the total waste generated in Indonesia. And only 0.3 million tons of fashion waste were successfully recycled.
"Through this collaboration, Lion Parcel will become the Official Logistics Partner for Setali Indonesia, supporting the delivery of textile and fashion waste that has been collected to be sorted, processed, and reprocessed by Setali Indonesia into recycled fashion products with a longer shelf life. " said Kenny.
Setali Indonesia itself was born in 2018 as a social enterprise that focuses on dealing with the problem of textile and fashion waste, by extending the life of these clothes through efforts to give new life to clothes that are no longer used.
Various new creations were made to increase the value of the waste by turning it into new fashion products or other products. It is hoped that this good thing will not only have an impact on reducing textile waste, but can provide jobs for the tailors.
Founder & Advisor of Setali Indonesia Andien Aisyah added, apart from being active in recycling activities, Setali is also active in socializing and educating the wider community about the importance of managing textile waste, decluttering, ethical fashion, and how to choose more sustainable fabric materials.
"The inauguration of the Lion Parcel collaboration as Setali Indonesia's Official Logistics Partner can help Setali's operational process reach more cities for textile waste processing," he added.
This collaboration is the first step in a long-term collaboration between the two companies which will be carried out in its entirety, starting from the education side, workshops, to processing fashion waste with tailors from the Setali Indonesia network.
