The Ministry of Trade Zulkifli Hasan took decisive steps to destroy 730 bales of clothes and shoes worth 10 billion. The destruction of 730 bales of used goods is a follow-up to President Jokowi's directives. This was revealed on Wednesday (15/03/2023) which prohibited the import of used goods because it disrupted the domestic textile industry. According to the Ministry of Trade, the act of destroying used goods is also a response and responsibility. "As a response and one of our responsibilities for the increasingly widespread trade in used clothing," he said

Not only that, the Ministry of Trade has also destroyed, approximately 780 bales which were allegedly used imported clothes.

"According to regulations, we destroyed 730 bales of used clothing, footwear and bags with a value of up to 10 billion," he continued.

What was done by the Ministry of Trade, was one of the follow-ups related to supervision of trade.

"This is also a follow-up to the supervision of the trade and import of used clothing that we carry out on an ongoing basis.

As has been widely reported, the destruction of 730 bales of used goods was carried out at the type A terminal at Bandar Raya Payung Sekaki in Pekanbaru, Riau on Friday (17/03/2023)

Meanwhile, in a different place, Acting Director General of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Trade Veri Anggrijono said that the Ministry of Trade is very serious about eradicating the import of used goods.

Proof of his seriousness by forming a team to prevent these used goods. The team consists of customs, police and regional Ministry of Trade services.

"Western route has begun to be strictly monitored, from customs, police and our regional services. They (used clothes importers) are now moving from place to place." Veri said. Used clothes or thrifting are now being liked by the wider community, especially young people.

There are many reasons why thrifting is popular, one of which is because it can be fashionable but at an affordable price. But behind the cheap price, there is a threatening danger, namely the fungus that is carried on these used clothes. There are mushrooms that don't disappear even though they've been washed many times. Of course it can cause skin disease for the wearer.

As consumers, of course we have to be wise and careful in shopping, including clothing issues. Don't be tempted by cheap prices but it can harm us.
