The Indonesian textile and textile products (TPT) and footwear industries have been able to survive amidst the global economic shocks. The trade balance of these two commodities experienced a surplus last year even though their export destination countries, namely the United States and Europe, experienced a recession. The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs noted that the TPT trade balance experienced a surplus of USD 3.71 billion. This performance increased by 3.34 percent compared to the previous period. Likewise, the footwear industry experienced a surplus of USD 1.03 billion. An increase of 41 percent compared to 2021 performance.

Deputy for Coordination of Commerce and Industry, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Ali Murtopo Simbolon said, the high exports were driven by sales of Indonesian Adidas products. Last year, the export value of textile and footwear commodities from Adidas Indonesia reached USD 2.54 billion.

"Adidas Indonesia is one of the largest contributors to exports of the textile and footwear industry and has realized exports in 2022 worth USD 2.54 billion," Ali said while giving a speech at the Adidas Global Partner Summit, quoted in Jakarta, Saturday (25/3).

Of the total exports, as much as 33 percent of production is sent to countries in Europe. In fact, the export value reached USD 826.6 million or the equivalent of 33 percent of Adidas Indonesia's total exports.

"Exports to European countries reached USD 826.6 million or the equivalent of 33 percent of total exports," said

According to him, Indonesia has the potential to become a major market, production base and export center for the world's TPT and footwear industries because it has many advantages. Indonesia is a country with the 16th largest economy in the world, has a very large domestic market with a population of 273 million.

This includes a demographic bonus that has increased significantly and relatively stable political and economic conditions. High competitiveness is the key to achieving optimal export performance.

"The implementation of the Adidas Global Partner Summit is the right momentum in realizing a more competitive upstream and downstream integration of Indonesian textile and footwear industries," he said.

Nevertheless, the import of raw materials becomes an inseparable part. The challenge of supply chain integration is very important to be resolved immediately.

So, he hopes that the top executives of the Adidas Group partners will not hesitate and immediately invest to fill the void in the Adidas Indonesia supply chain. "So that Indonesia is able to move as the main market, production base, and export center for the world's textile and footwear industries," said Ali.
