Textile traders in Jakarta have received a surge in requests for flags to attribute to political parties in 2023 and it is predicted that demand will continue to increase in 2024 when simultaneous elections and presidential elections will be held. A number of traders at the Senen Jaya textile product shopping center in Central Jakarta said they had experienced an increase in demand. According to the Senen Jaya 1&2 Shopping Center Manager, Prismo Juni Prianto, ahead of the political year the demand for party attributes in his shopping center did increase, even though not all traders felt it at the time.
He said, generally orders for political party attributes come from successful teams both in Jakarta and outside the city.
“Usually it is six months before the election but this has started to show activity. Slowly orders started to increase, especially flags, t-shirts and banners," he said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday (20/6/2023).
The shopping center currently has 400 vendors of party attributes and accessories since the facility reopened in February 2023 after being rebuilt.
One of the party's attribute traders at the Senen Jaya 1&2 Shopping Center, Chandra (52), stated that every political season, many party aides and special teams from various regions and even outside the island contact him.
Chandra owns a textile shop called Bangkit Bersama which sells various kinds of party campaign attributes such as flags, shirts, clothes, knick-knacks for name tags, scarves, pins, key chains and stickers.
“I have been selling party specials for more than 30 years. During the Pilkada or Presidential Election, it is definitely here (Senen Jaya Shopping Center 1&2) that people go for because it is the most complete, there are also many choices of traders so you can match prices. Most of those who order from me come from outside Jakarta, such as Lampung, Medan, Makassar and even Maluku," said Chandra.
Justina (34), another textile trader, admitted that now there has been movement from the political team. He said most customers at his shop came from eastern Indonesia, such as NTB, NTT, Sulawesi and Papua.
"Orders have started coming in, such as emblems and t-shirts. Yesterday the Hanura Party ordered a total of 10,000 t-shirts, but those were from seven successful teams," he said.
Various party attributes are sold in his shop, Jussam Advertising at the Senen Jaya 1&2 Shopping Center. Starting from t-shirts, shirts, flags, pins, hats, to stickers.
