The Nusantara Trade Union Confederation (KSPN) noted that as many as 56,976 workers experienced termination of employment (PHK). The data is an accumulation of gradual layoffs carried out by the company from 2020 to early 2023. The companies are located in Central Java, West Java and Banten. "This data is still moving, tends to increase," said KSPN President Ristadi, Monday (24/7/2023). "That number is layoffs in stages, not all at once in one company. So, one company will carry out gradual layoffs starting at the end of 2020, and it is still ongoing," said Ristadi.

These companies, he said, had been under pressure since 2020.

"They have experienced a decline in orders, they don't even have orders. About 60% of them are export oriented, while 40% are local," he said.

As noted by BKPM, where investment in the textile industry still ranks 17th out of 23 sectors, with 86 projects worth IDR 1.702 trillion, in the form of domestic investment (PMDN). As for foreign capital (PMA), investment in the textile industry ranked 18th out of 23 sectors, with 647 projects valued at US$130 million.

"TPT (textile and textile product industry) in eastern and southern West Java is really growing, but TPT in Banten, DKI, West Java bordering DKI such as Karawang, Bekasi, are closing. Central West Java (Bandung Raya), many TPT are also rationalizing, some are closed," explained Ristadi.

"So, only 1 is known (PHK) due to relocation, namely PT Nikomas in Serang Regency," he concluded.
