The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) does not deny the condition of illegal used clothing imports which are still flooding the domestic market, thereby holding back the pace of growth in the performance of the textile and textile products (TPT) industry. Deputy Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga, said that his party had emphasized various stakeholders, including the Directorate General of Indonesian Customs and Excise, to prevent the import of used clothes into the country. "The import of used clothes is illegal according to regulations, and this has been done by the Ministry of Trade. We also collaborate with various ministries, agencies, customs and so on, to ensure that the import of used materials is prohibited," said Jerry when met at the DPR, some time ago .

He said that the first action had been taken together with the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, namely by raiding markets and immediately destroying imported second-hand clothes. This also continues to ensure that upstream there are no more illegal import activities of goods.

However, on the other hand, the government still tolerates traders using up existing stocks on the market.

"For traders, they are given a tolerance limit. However, don't forget that there are also used goods that are not imported, from domestic goods. We ensure that inspections of the warehouses are carried out, so as to ensure that in the end there are no illegal import activities," he said.

This was also confirmed by the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, who stated that his party, the Ministry of Trade and Bareskrim had agreed to allow traders to use up existing stocks. However, his party continues to carry out evaluations and reviews so that traders do not return to supplying imported used clothes. According to Teten, the government has also monitored the entry route for illegal used clothing imports, namely in Sumatra.
