The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) emphasizes the importance of controlling harmful gas emissions, especially SOx (sulfur) content, in the process of making semi-synthetic viscose or rayon from wood pulp, by requiring the textile industry to install air quality monitoring equipment. Based on the Circular Letter of the Minister of Industry Number 2 of 2023, the Ministry of Industry underlines the importance of controlling dangerous gas emissions. "In order to comply with these regulations, companies in this sector are required to install Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) to monitor their exhaust emissions," said the Director General of Resilience, Regional and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Ministry of Industry Eko S A Cahyanto in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (20/9/2023).

The Ministry of Industry, continued Eko, has also played an active role by conducting field visits to PT Indo Bharat Rayon and PT South Pacific Viscose. Both companies have used a Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) and pollution control equipment such as an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) in their plants.

"The results of field inspections show that the two companies have succeeded in meeting environmental quality standards well. "This is proven by the results of emission tests using the Adaptive Monitoring System (AiMS) installed at PT Indo Bharat Rayon. The results of these emission tests can be seen in real time via the website https://bit.ly/pemantauanAQMSKemenperin," added Eko.

As a follow-up step, the Ministry of Industry has also drafted a draft Minister of Industry Regulation on Green Industry Standards for the rayon industry. This draft regulation will apply to all rayon industries in Indonesia to ensure that these industries comply with applicable environmental standards.

This step is expected to help reduce the negative impact of the rayon industry on the environment, as well as support nature conservation efforts. Exhaust gas emission control inspections in the viscose rayon industry are one of the government's proactive steps in preserving the environment.

The Ministry of Industry also ensures that it will continue to monitor and ensure that these industries continue to comply with applicable regulations, so that they can maintain a good business climate and increase the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector in Indonesia.
