The Ministry of Industry proposes a number of sectors to be included in the critical group. This is done by considering a number of factors, including exports and being a supporter of essential groups.

Director General of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Textile Industries (IKFT) of the Ministry of Industry Muhammad Khayam said that according to the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 24/2021, critical groups were allowed to operate 100 percent.

Khayam assessed that one of the sectors proposed to be fully operational is the textile and textile products (TPT) and footwear industry.

"The main factor in this sector is that it includes a group of net exporters and foreign exchange contributors with a positive trade balance," he said in the IOMKI socialization.

Khayam said the textile industry and export-oriented footwear also work on a contract basis which has a tight schedule. Not to mention, they are tied to shipping prices and container rentals.

As a result, it is feared that there will be penalties if the container owner does not comply with the schedule until the cancellation of the contract with the buyer.

In addition, the characteristics of the textile and footwear industry, which, although labor intensive, are dominated by continuous technical work, making it impossible for a 50 percent capacity cut to occur.

"Exports of the textile and footwear industry are full and cannot be delayed. Therefore, this sector is proposed to be included in the critical group due to commitment and geopolitics. Suppliers who were previously essential are also expected to obtain full operating permits as long as they are partners in the export-supporting industry," said Khayam.

Apart from textiles and footwear, Khayam said that other industries that are being proposed to be fully operational are the lubricants, paints, printing ink, tires, technical equipment made of plastic, and sheet plastic products.
