Hundreds of workers at a garment company in Tanjungpinang, PT Swakarya Indah Busana, went on strike because their salaries had not been paid.
It appears that hundreds of employees of the company occupied the company's yard in the Km.7 Tanjungpinang area on Friday (30/7/2021).
It was revealed by one of the company's workers, Sri Kasmini, that he and his colleagues had not received their salaries for two months.
"When our salaries are paid, we also need money to pay for the house and other lives. But the company doesn't even want to know, it's been 2 months and a half and it hasn't been paid," said Sri.
Sri said the total unpaid salary reached Rp 5 million. The same fate was experienced by hundreds of workers in the company.
Until now, he said, there was no clarity from the management when the arrears were paid. In fact, production and export are always running.
Another worker named Sumarti also explained the same thing. He said the company claimed it did not have the money to pay the salaries of all PT SIB workers on time. In fact, he said, the company always exports its products.
"The reason is that there is always no money, even though exports are always carried out to Singapore. But our salaries have not been paid, so we go on strike," said Sumarti.
Not only salary, the company also has not fully paid the Tunjungan Hari Raya (THR) 2021. THR is IDR 3 million per person and the company only provides IDR 1 million.
"The rest of the THR million has not been paid, yesterday we were only given Rp. 1 million for one person, the rest has not yet been paid," he said.
Meanwhile, PT Swakarya Indah Busana (SIB) Tanjungpinang has not yet met the employee and has not responded to journalists' confirmation regarding this strike.
