The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Jakarta Provincial Culture Office will hold a temporary exhibition entitled, "The Variety of Fauna Ornaments in Indonesian Wastra" on Monday, September 6 to Saturday, September 25 at the Jakarta Textile Museum.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Culture Service, Iwan Henry Wardhana, also appreciates and supports the steps taken by the Art Museum Management Unit in its efforts to preserve traditional Indonesian fabrics as well as introduce fauna diversity through its fabric motifs.

“I appreciate and fully support the activities of this exhibition. Hopefully the public can get to know more about traditional Indonesian fabrics as well as the variety of Indonesian fauna through the cloth motifs on display,” said Iwan.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Art Museum Management Unit, Sri Kusumawati said, the diversity of fauna from all over Indonesia is one source of inspiration in creating traditional Indonesian textile creations. This is especially true for the decorative motifs of fauna, such as insects, sea animals, birds and mythological animals, which have certain messages and meanings that often describe the life and beliefs of the local community.

"This is because Indonesia's territory is vast, in the form of an archipelago, and is located on the equator," said Sri.

Coinciding with the 45th anniversary of the Textile Museum and Wastraprema Association, the series of exhibition activities will also present 45 collections of wastra or traditional fabrics that have their own meanings and symbols with fauna decorative motifs, consisting of 20 collections from the Textile Museum and 25 collections. Wastra Jo Seda's house. Previously, the Indonesian Fauna Wastra Ornamental Application Competition in Casual Fashion Design had also started on August 18, and will continue until September 15, 2021.

In addition, to further enliven the series of temporary exhibitions, several other events will be held, including the Fauna Decorative Embroidery Workshop, which will be attended by SMK students in DKI Jakarta on 6, 14, 17 September 2021; and the Fauna Ornamental Variety Webinar in Wastra Indonesia on 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25 September 2021.

Furthermore, Sri expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Wastraprema Association, Jo Seda Wastra House, Mrs. Sri Sintasari Iskandar and Mr. Benny Gratha as exhibition curators, as well as all parties who have supported the exhibition which continues to synergize with the Museum.
