PT PLN (Persero) acquires the world's textile giant, Indorama Group. PLN signed the Minutes of Captive Incentives with PT Indorama Polychem and PT Indorama Synthetics on October 28, 2021. PT Indorama Polychem, which is part of Indorama Ventures, is the largest producer of PET resin and polyester in the world. Meanwhile, PT Indorama Synthetics is known as the largest exporter of spun yarn and polyester in Indonesia. The cooperation between PLN and PT Indorama in terms of electricity supply has been going on since 1993. However, over time to meet its electricity needs, PT Indorama builds and operates its own power plant and uses PLN's electricity as a back-up.
Currently, with the increasing demand for electricity supply for its business activities, PT Indorama has decided to re-transfer and entrust its electricity supply to PLN.
PLN provides a solution to the needs of PT Indorama with Progressive Captive Power Acquisition Tariff Incentive services for industrial customers. This service provides incentives for customers who are willing to switch the use of independent electricity from their generators to PLN electricity in the form of electricity tariff incentives as well as full reliability of electricity supply from PLN.
PLN Director of Commerce and Customer Management Bob Saril said that with this agreement, PLN and PT Indorama Polychem and PT Indorama Synthetics agreed to cooperate with PT Indorama Polychem's incentive captive of 1 x 30 Mega Watt (MW) and PT Indorama Synthetics' 1 x 32 MW.
"Thank you again for trusting PLN to be the electricity solution. We are proud to be able to supply electrical energy for Indorama. Hopefully, Indorama's business will be more prosperous and can improve the living standards of the surrounding community," he said in a written statement, Thursday, October 28, 2021.
The two factories owned by Indorama are supplied from the Purwakarta GI and the KTT Indorama GI, which are included in the Cirata Subsystem and are connected to the Delta Mas Subsystem and the South Bandung Subsystem. Because it is connected to three subsystems at once, Bob ensures the system that supplies Indorama is very strong and reliable.
"We strive to provide the best for our customers. We are committed to always improving the reliability of the power supply and ensuring a safe supply," he said.
Bob continued, through this collaboration, PLN can fulfill its obligation to provide reliable electricity without stopping so that PT Indorama Polychem and PT Indorama Synthetics can focus on more productive businesses.
Meanwhile, for PT Indorama Polychem and PT Indorama Synthetics, with this acquisition, Indorama's potential for cost efficiency is greater, thus optimizing productivity.
"We hope this good cooperation will also give good results. Hopefully this cooperation will be the first step for other collaborations that will be established in the future between PLN and Indorama," added Bob.
On the other hand, Saurabh Mishra said he was happy to be able to resume cooperation with PLN. Moreover, the collaboration between Indorama and PLN has been going on for decades, since the Purwakarta factory in Jatiluhur was established.
"Previously I would like to wish you a happy National Electricity Day, I am very happy that this event can be held to coincide with the 76th birthday of PLN," he said.
