Textile and apparel business actors said that the procurement of technology in production machines and the competence of human resources could be a requirement for the realization of the use of industry 4.0 in this leading sector. According to Product Manager Gerber Technology of PT Brothersindo Saudara Sejati, Arthur Francis Barthelemy in a statement in Jakarta, Monday, both of these are solutions to macro challenges in the national textile and apparel industry, namely the low productivity of the textile and apparel industry.

According to him, the low productivity in this sector is caused by the limitations of the technology contained in the machines and the quality and competence of the workers.

"Technology and human resource factors are complementary prerequisites for Making Indonesia 4.0 in the textile and apparel industry sector," said Arthur.

He said the textile and apparel industry, as a labor-intensive manufacturing sector, should ideally be filled with highly competent workers in line with the rapid development of technology.

These competent workers are needed to operate various production machines that have technological sophistication and can efficiently accelerate production.

For this reason, good quality human resources and technological sophistication should be able to produce high productivity, considering that currently the productivity of the textile and apparel industry in Indonesia is not yet optimal.

In addition, according to Arthur, every worker must have high motivation and a sense of ownership that can be formed through training of workers in order to create character formation that is in accordance with industrial culture.

"Technology and worker competence will boost output and efficiency. Good production efficiency means increased ability to fulfill orders. With the large export market segment, the larger the number of orders from abroad means that exports will increase," he said.

He also ensured that the increase in exports from the national textile and apparel sector will also have an impact on Indonesia's foreign exchange.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which has been processed by the Industrial Data Center of the Ministry of Industry, the apparel industry sector is one of the six commodities that have the largest export value in 2018 to 2020.

"From this data, the national textile and apparel industry still has enormous potential to grow and develop. The use of Gerber Technology accompanied by qualified worker skills will be able to realize this great potential so that Making Indonesia 4.0 will be realized," he said.
