Indonesia targets to reduce import dependence by import substitution by 22% in 2021. However, currently (January-August) the achievement is only 7%. Meanwhile, next year, the import substitution target is 35%. "In 2021, it is targeted to reach 22% but now it has only reached 7%," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at a press conference on Industrial Sector Performance in 2021 & Outlook 2022, Wednesday (29/12/2021). He explained a number of strategies that can be carried out so that the import substitution target in 2022 can be realized, namely by deepening the industrial structure, increasing investment and absorbing new workers,

increasing domestic spending ability, independence of industrial raw materials, regulatory support and incentives, optimizing the P3DN program,and increase in export market.

 

"The import substitution program is targeted at 35% by 2022 with the strategy being implemented," said Agus.

He explained that the Ministry of Industry had conducted exercises based on sector. In real terms, the potential for import substitution is IDR 434 trillion. His party targets that this figure can be reduced cumulatively to reach 35% or equivalent to Rp. 152 trillion in 2022.

The mainstay sectors are the chemical, pharmaceutical and textile industry, the metal industry, transportation machinery and electronics, the agro industry and the miscellaneous industry.

The next program to reduce or eliminate dependence on imports is to build the Indonesia Manufacturing Center (IMC). It will bridge the gap between the demand side of the industry for machinery and the supply side of machinery resulting from research, development, and innovation either by universities, research institutes, or industry.

"In 2022, there will also be the Development of a Center of Excellence for Medical Devices, Facilitation of Commercialization of Research Results, Innovation and Infrastructure Facilitation of the Center of Excellence for Medical Devices," he continued.

Agus added, as an effort to increase the use of domestic products, in 2022 his party will again provide free certification facilitation to domestic industrial companies, including medical equipment, machinery, pharmaceuticals, machinery, electronics and telematics, metals, electricity, chemicals, industrial products. fertilizers, automotive and their components, ceramics, cement, textiles, and SME products.

"Facilitation for TKDN certification in 2022 is given for at least 1,250 product certificates," he added.
