The clothing industry will certainly see this as an opportunity to make a profit by producing and selling clothes with 'modern' models, but at low prices. For the lower middle class, an industry like this will make it easier for them to stay 'up to date'. The clothing industry like this is commonly known as the Fast Fashion industry. The fast fashion clothing industry will produce clothes with 'current' models with low production costs. Maybe to some, this sounds interesting and very good. However, do you know the impact of this kind of clothing industry?

Orsola de Castro, founder of Fashion Revolution, said that the fashion produced by Fast Fashion is the biggest contributor to waste. Polyester fabric is a commonly used fabric in this industry. Do you know what Polyester is? These fabrics are generally made of non-biodegradable plastic.

The impact of using this cloth is very large and wide. One of the impacts of using this cloth is the destruction of the environment around the landfill. This is because the chemicals used for this fabric will absorb into the soil and pollute the environment.

Fast fashion also produces carbon emissions in the manufacturing process. Vibrant colors, attractive fabric patterns and textures, derived from harmful chemicals. Textile dyeing is the second largest cause of clean water pollution in the world after agriculture. The use of cheap and easy-to-produce petrochemical-based fabrics such as polyester and synthetic materials is very harmful to the environment.

This industry not only has a negative impact on the environment, but this industry also employs individuals with low wages and dangerous risks. The risk in question is that workers will be in direct contact with hazardous chemicals with a very long working time.

The exploitation carried out by this industry is only to provide 'contemporary' clothing and of course reap huge profits. Maybe for some people, they don't think about the impact of this industry. They just want to reach the cool standards that society has set.

When people are still not aware of the impact of the Fast Fashion industry, this type of industry will continue to emerge due to high demand. This of course makes energy exploitation will continue to occur due to high demand. The more potential natural damage will continue to occur, workers will continue to be exploited, and so on.

This mode of production will certainly hinder the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals target 12, namely responsible consumption and production. For that, let's be wise in buying goods and don't let us have the mindset that for 'current' we have to be uniform with influencers or celebrities.
