The implementation of a circular economy is believed to encourage higher economic growth and create new jobs in large numbers. Deputy for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that the implementation of a circular economy would create economic growth of up to 2.5 percent of GDP. Chairman of the Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry and Environment Division of the Central Executive Board (BPP) of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (Hipmi) Robert Muda Hartawan said he strongly agrees with the implementation of circular economy because it will maintain and extend the value of a product for as long as possible.

"This circular economy will provide opportunities for companies to be greener and sustainable, but also bring direct benefits through income generation for sustainable development. I believe this circular economy can have a good impact on the Indonesian economy," said Robert, Monday, February 28, 2022.

Meanwhile, based on a Bappenas study, the implementation of a circular economy can reduce waste in the five priority sectors by 18 to 52 percent compared to only the business as usual scenario in 2030.

"The circular economy will be the future of the global economy and companies. With the circular economy concept, waste, including food, can become a new resource. Moreover, we know that half of the city's waste comes from food waste," said Robert.

Robert also added that the existence of a Waste Power Plant (PLTS) with the installation of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) is also considered to be a solution to the negative impact of carbon emissions. In 2018, municipal waste contributed 43,000 tons of CO2, or the equivalent of 34 percent of emissions from the solid waste sector.

"For the implementation of this circular economy, it is indeed not easy, there are still many challenges and problems. Such as facing systemic problems, including waste consisting of plastic, textiles, and food. But Indonesia needs to start implementing and reviewing it more seriously for the implementation of this circular economy. ," concluded Robert.
