The Tanah Abang Market in West Jakarta has started to stir again since the pandemic 2 years ago. The traders again sell various types of textile products, ranging from Eid clothes, party dresses, and various hijabs. They take these goods from various sources, ranging from production in local convection to take them from the import market. "If it's imported, it's cheaper, for example, a veil like that is only Rp. 15-20 thousand, while if you produce it yourself, it can be up to 2x as much," said Ricky, a trader at the Tanah Abang Multipurpose Bridge, Thursday (17/3/22).
The price difference is caused by various things, from the increase in production costs to the high cost of raw materials. Local convection must also bear if there is a loss from production.
"Usually there are only one reject item. This needs to be included in the production calculation," he said.
Ricky indeed sells more local products than imported products, ranging from jeans or materials to women's tops. However, many other traders sell imported products more dominantly.
Imported clothes are actually very easy to find in Tanah Abang Market. Not only hijab, but also various other textile products.
"Just like the bra, all of them are imported, and the hijab is also mostly imported," said Ricky.
Meanwhile, there are other traders who trust local products more, namely Irwan. This man from West Sumatra sells various party dresses in block F of Tanah Abang Market.
"Party dresses like this are segmented, indeed, at this time the increase in sales has not been felt. I am indeed dominant in selling local products compared to imports, but many also sell more imports," said Irwan, who has been selling since 1999.
