Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati adjusted the classification of goods and tariff posts on products subject to import duty security measures (BMTP) in line with the implementation of the goods classification system based on the Harmonized System 2022 and Asean Harmonized Tariff Nomenclature 2022. Adjustments are regulated in a number of ministerial finance regulations (PMK), including PMK 33/2022. The regulation updates the classification of carpet products and other floor covering textiles imposed by the BMTP. The imposition of BMTP on this product was previously regulated in PMK 10/2021.

"In connection with the implementation of the provisions regarding the classification system of goods based on the Harmonized System 2022 and the Asean Harmonized Tariff Nomenclature 2022, it is necessary to adjust the classification of goods for carpet products and other floor covering textiles that are subject to BMTP," reads one of the considerations of the policy, Monday (4/4/ 2022).

Adjustments to the classification of goods are also made for imported fabric products that are subject to BMTP as regulated in PMK 34/2022. This PMK 34/2022 updates the provisions for imposing BMTP on imports of fabric products which were previously regulated in PMK 55/2020.

Furthermore, the classification of cigarette paper products and non-porous plug wrap paper that is subject to BMTP is also adjusted. The adjustment is regulated in PMK 35/2022 which is an amendment to PMK 157/2021.

In addition, through PMK 38/2022, the minister of finance adjusts the classification of imported clothing products and clothing accessories that are subject to BMTP. The imposition of BMTP on imports of clothing products and clothing accessories was previously regulated in PMK 142/2021.

Additional information, BMTP is a levy that can be imposed on imported goods in the event of a surge in the number of imported goods, both in absolute and relative terms to similar domestically produced goods or goods that are directly competitive.

BMTP can be imposed if the surge in imported goods can cause serious losses to the domestic industry that produces goods similar to those goods and/or goods that are directly competitive.
