Buying new clothes for Eid or the celebration of Eid al-Fitr seems to have taken root as a culture in Indonesia. Lebaran has also become synonymous with new clothes worn when staying in touch at the moment of Eid. But in fact the habit is not entirely wise to do. The reason is, it can increase clothing waste in the environment because it will use more raw material resources. Then, in the downstream sector there will be an abundance of used clothes that require maintenance to be resold, for example with detergent. This is certainly a threat to the environment.

Seeing this phenomenon, environmental expert from Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Prabang Setyono said that basically buying new clothes on Eid has a positive meaning. However, he reminded the public that they should be wise by using old or rarely worn clothes.

"The culture (new clothes for Eid) is actually a good symbolic meaning, only the physical meaning doesn't have to be with new clothes. But, good clothes that have been stored for a long time but have not been worn or are rarely worn, said Prabang, Monday (9/5). ).

Prabang advises people who have bought new clothes to use the circular method of wearing decent clothes. This system is to distribute clothes that are considered too small or not trendy to people in need. With this action, it is hoped that the clothes will not become textile waste and be useful for others.

"For those who have bought clothes, eating clothes that are considered out of trend or no longer used must be distributed to a business unit or a place to store clothes suitable for use to be distributed to other user communities so that their use is sustainable," concluded Prabang Setyono.

Meanwhile, for clothes that cannot be worn and must be turned into waste, they can still be sold to producers. These clothes can later be turned into fillets or fillers for household properties, such as sofa chairs or cushions.
