Small and Medium Industry (IKM) of fashion in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) always experiences significant growth every year. Even the export value of textile products occupies the third largest position for export product commodities. This was conveyed by the Acting Head of the DIY Industry and Trade Office, Yuna Pancawati. He said the growth of fashion SMEs in the region always shows an increasing trend. "The potential of the fashion IKM is quite extraordinary and the export value itself has increased, even though textile products are ranked third in export product commodities," Yuna said, Sunday (12/6/2022).

Not to mention, Yuna said, when there were various fashion-related events held in Indonesia, especially in DIY. This further supports the development of fashion SMEs for the better in the future.

Even the increase in the export value of textile products from year to year in DIY has reached a fairly large number.

"The value is that the increase from year to year is quite significant. The total from DIY as a whole in 2022 is around 534 million US dollars for export commodities and textile products themselves are in the third rank," he explained.

Yuna said that there are several countries that are the main export destinations. Among them are America, Germany and Japan.

"Those are the three destination countries for export commodity products from DIY and of course we also want to penetrate non-traditional markets," he said.

It was previously known that in Indonesia, the fashion industry is developing well. In 2019, before the pandemic, the national fashion industry was able to contribute around 18 percent of national income or around Rp. 1,500 trillion.

Currently, Indonesia is the 10th largest exporter of textiles to the world. The Indonesian government noted that the textile industry has absorbed 3.58 million jobs.

"This sector contributes around 21.2 percent of employment in the manufacturing sector," said President of the UN Global Compact Indonesia, Yaya Winarno Junardi, at the Textile Science meet Textile Economy symposium held at Atma Jaya Unika Jakarta on Tuesday (24/05).

Due to the contribution of the fashion world to national income, the Indonesian government has designated the textile industry as one of the national strategic industries.

After facing a contraction during the pandemic, Indonesia has set a projected growth of the textile industry at 5 percent in 2022.
