The Jakarta Textile Museum is holding an Indonesian weaving exhibition entitled "The Shades of Kemilau Wastra Weaving Indonesia" featuring weaving crafts from Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Timor in the series of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The Head of the DKI Jakarta Culture Service, Iwan Henry Wardhana, said that the exhibition, which took place from Wednesday (20/7/2022) to Wednesday (31/8/2022), was not only to celebrate independence, but also to celebrate the 46th Anniversary of the Textile Museum."This is the main thing as an effort to preserve Indonesian Wastra and be a reminder of the rich history of Indonesian civilization," said Iwan in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/7/2022).

Later, the peculiarities and uniqueness of the weaving wastra from the three islands will be displayed, some of which are already rare and are no longer made. "The expressions contained in each of these wastra sheets are the embodiment of a sign of love and loyalty to the homeland, namely Indonesia," said Iwan.

Iwan explained that this activity is in collaboration with the Wastraprema Association and will exhibit 138 pieces of woven fabric from the collections of the Textile Museum, Jo Seda Wastra House, as well as the late Biranul Anas collector from Sumatra, Timor and Sulawesi. "We would like to thank all parties who have supported the implementation of this exhibition so that it runs successfully and smoothly. Hopefully this cooperation will be maintained and will continue to be improved in the future in various forms of activities that are beneficial to the community," he explained.

Weaving itself is an ancient tradition that has existed in Indonesia for thousands of years. The weaving tradition that can be found in various regions in Indonesia has become an inseparable part of the life of the local community.
