The Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita launched the Ministry of Industry's strategy in achieving a 35 percent import substitution policy by 2022 to reduce import dependence. This step also encourages the strengthening of the domestic industrial structure.

"The Ministry of Industry has issued a 35 percent import substitution policy in 2022 with priority on industries with a large import value in 2019 such as machinery, chemicals, metals, electronics, food, electrical equipment, textiles, motor vehicles, metal goods, as well as rubber and materials. made of rubber," said Agus.

The Minister of Industry conveyed this in a statement regarding 'Reflection of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day in Building an Independent, Sovereign, Advanced, Equitable, and Inclusive Domestic Industry'

Agus conveyed that the strategy taken was to reduce imports to stimulate the growth of the domestic import substitution industry, increase the utility of the domestic industry, and increase investment for the production of imported substitute goods.

Another strategy is to optimize the increase in the use of domestic products through the determination of the Domestic Content Level (TKDN) of at least 40 percent.

The determination of TKDN is intended to encourage all products produced by domestic industries to be absorbed in domestic goods/services procurement projects, either through the State Budget or BUMN/BUMD budgets.

"This policy is a form of taking sides with domestic products and a step to safeguard the sustainability of the domestic industry," said Agus.

He said that all countries must use various instruments to protect their industry, fortify their production sector, and protect their workforce and citizens.

Partisanship and security support are aimed at providing opportunities for domestic industries to develop and increase competitiveness until they are established and able to compete in global competition.

Otherwise, imports will be rampant and domestic industries will never be able to be sovereign in their own territory.

In addition, the independence and sovereignty of the domestic industry must also be supported or supported by changes in mindset and behavior. From the business side, Agus said, the "all-instant" mentality and "don't want to be bothered" make import practices into a culture of dependence in Indonesia's development practices.

Enlightenment and encouragement need to be given so that there is a transformation of business actors from traders to industrialists, from import-oriented to production-oriented. In terms of society, the impact of globalization and technological advances has created a consumptive culture and opened wide public access to imported products.

Education and empowerment need to be encouraged in order to grow entrepreneurial character in the community so that they have an interest in entering the manufacturing sector, through new entrepreneurship or small industries.

In addition, education and campaigns are also strengthened to foster people's pride and love for domestic products. "The public must be made aware that prioritizing the use of domestic production is a commendable and patriotic act," concluded Agus.
