Weaving Pandai Sikek is very well known to the international world. Various textile products such as scarves, sarongs, and songkets have had loyal customers for a long time.
The production process and equipment used are traditionally passed down from generation to generation with a view to maintaining quality and design. Weaving technology and equipment are strictly kept confidential in order to prevent duplication by outsiders.
In order to encourage IKM weaving crafts to be able to improve and develop their business to be more effective and efficient. And also improving product quality and machine tools so that it is expected to reduce costs and production time of the resulting product.
Therefore, the West Sumatra Department of Industry and Trade (Disperindag) conducted a Weaving Design Development Training in the province by taking a location in Nagari Pandai Sikek, Tanah Datar Regency.
This training is part of a series of program activities for Diversification of Various Handicrafts and Textile Products.
The implementation of this training was supported by the West Sumatra DPRD by providing Non-Machine Weaving Equipment (ATBM) assistance to weaving craftsmen.
This tool is one of the innovations for IKM in sikek that can save time on the completion of songket woven fabrics.
Meanwhile, if you use an ordinary loom, it takes 30-40 days to complete 1 piece of songket, but using this innovation loom it can be completed in a maximum of 10 days.
It is hoped that with this training in the development of weaving designs and the assistance of looms, the weaving craftsmen can improve the quality both in terms of design and motifs, but will also improve the welfare of their families.
This training was attended by 15 weaving craftsmen at the weaving IKM center in the clever sikek village, X Koto sub-district, Tanah Datar Regency, which was held for 8 days.
The instructor and resource person who will provide material and assist the participants in the weaving process during the training is Mas'ap Widiawan and assisted by Rino Usman as a regional practitioner.
This training was officially opened by the Head of West Sumatra Disperindag, Asben Hendri.
Asben hopes that participants can maximize this training as well as possible in order to save time on the completion of songket fabrics made without reducing the quality produced so that it will improve the economy of their households.
"In addition, we also remind that while participating in this series of activities, participants and resource persons and instructors can apply health protocols properly," he said.
On the sidelines of the training practice, the participants were also visited directly by Budiman Dt. Malano Garang, Member of the West Sumatra DPRD from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction.
"We hope that with this training activity, in addition to gaining knowledge and skills in developing weaving designs and accelerating the process of making cloth, participants will also continue to put their trust in Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, because after trying with all the power and effort they have, the end result is still the same. in the hands of God," he hoped.
Budiman reminded to continue to maintain a relationship with Allah, lest busyness in earning a living will neglect from worshiping Allah subhanahu Wata'ala.
