The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) stated that until now there are several debtors or big obligors of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) who have not paid off their obligations to the state. One of the obligors announced by the Ministry of Finance is the Texmaco Group belonging to the textile conglomerate Marimutu Sinivasan. Because it was judged that there was no good faith, the government finally confiscated 587 plots of land covering an area of 4,794,202 square meters belonging to the Texmaco Group. The plots of land are located in 5 areas, namely Subang Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Pekalongan City, Batu City, and Padang City. Some of these lands are former textile factories.

The Texmaco Group is one of the priority debtors of the BLBI Task Force which is included in the BLBI Funds State Collection Rights Handling document dated April 15, 2021. Its debt to the government even reached Rp 29 trillion and US$ 80.57 million.

Marimutu Sinivasan actually filed a lawsuit to the Central Jakarta District Court regarding the collection of the BLBI debt. He said the lawsuit was carried out so that there was a debt that deserved to be repaid.

Although he denied that he was in arrears on his BLBI debt, he admitted that he did have a debt to Bank BNI, the state-owned bank that also received BLBI disbursement during the 1998 monetary crisis.

Marimutu Sinivasan lawsuit trial

The Ministry of Finance explained that in the trial held at the Central Jakarta Court, Marimutu Sinivasan remained in his position, namely refusing to admit that he owed the government in the BLBI case.

"The trial with Texmaco is already underway. The name of the trial was to first confirm each other's power of attorney, because we are the government which means that those assigned must obtain a power of attorney from the Minister of Finance, the parties are examined," said Director of Legal and Public Relations of the Ministry of Finance DJKN, Tri Wahyuningsih Retno Mulyani (16/1/2022).

Meanwhile, at the next trial, both parties remained adamant about the amount of debt they believed in each.

The Texmaco Group still claims to have no BLBI debt, while the Ministry of Finance says the group has debt.

"At the time of the second trial, each party still maintained their stance that they said they had no debt, while our (data) (showed) they had debts, so the trial will continue. So we will continue the trial for Texmaco," said Ani.

It was noted that there were 4 different nominal debts. Texmaco believes its debt to the government reaches Rp 8 trillion. Meanwhile, according to the version of the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the debt reached Rp. 29 trillion along with arrears of L/C.

Tommy Suharto's Rejection

Similar to the Texmaco Marimutu Sinivasan box, another obligor Tommy Suharto also denied having BLBI debts to the government.

In fact, even though his assets tied to PT Timor Putra Nasional (TPN) have been confiscated by the government and auctioned off, Tommy Suharto himself still insists that he does not owe the state a penny related to BLBI.

"There was no confiscation, people don't have debts," said Tommy after the New Palm Hill Club House Groundbreaking event in Sentul Bogor.

However, Tommy was reluctant to explain further about what steps would be taken in the future.

"Later, next month, right. We'll wait. That's enough, okay," said Tommy.

As is known, Tommy Suharto's assets were auctioned on Wednesday (12/1/2022) at a price of Rp. 2.4 trillion, but apparently they did not sell. Until the auction took place, not a single applicant had submitted a bid.

The assets under the name of PT Timor Putra Nasional were auctioned in relation to the collateral confiscated by the government related to the BLBI debt.

The auction proceeds are planned to be returned to the state treasury to reduce losses due to past BLBI corruption. The auction limit value requested by the Ministry of Finance is IDR 2.45 trillion with a security deposit of IDR 1 trillion.

Because the first auction had no interest, the government decided to conduct a re-auction or additional auctions. However, the schedule for the auction will still be discussed beforehand.
