President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has just appointed Zulkifli Hasan as the new Minister of Trade (Mendag). Replacing Muhammad Lutfi, who was sacked by Jokowi in the midst of fluctuations in commodity and food prices. "Congratulations on your assignment to the new Minister of Trade. The President must have considered carefully. Hopefully the Indonesian economy can be even better and can overcome and deal with inflationary shocks in various countries," said Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmaja , Wednesday (15/6/2022).

Moreover, he continued, the storm of crisis has haunted all of us. Plus, the US central bank's plan to raise interest rates again will surely be followed by the Central Banks of other countries.

Regarding the new task of the Minister of Trade in the manufacturing sector, especially textiles and textile products (TPT), Jemmy highlighted the importance of strengthening the domestic market.

"We have to strengthen the Indonesian textile and textile industry (SME) market and industry so that they can support the resilience of the national textile industry. Level playing considerations are a consideration for various market policies. We must protect the 272 million Indonesian people. So that the protection of the domestic market is very much needed," he said.

He added that protection efforts could be carried out with various policy mechanisms.

"In the form of Nontariff and Tariff Barrier," concluded Jemmy.
