Garment entrepreneurs are starting to raise the 'white flag' because the textile market conditions have not improved to date. Increasingly, garment factories are being sold. Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Fiber and Filament Yarn Producers (APSYFI) Redma Gita Wirawasta said that the phenomenon of factories being sold does not just change hands to other investors. Some of the factories were even sold off. As a result, he said, factories that were sold off would most likely not be operated again as they were originally intended.
"If he has sold it, he will no longer be on. Except for those that were bought by textile investors again, but in some cases it is rather difficult," he said, Friday (3/2/2023).
He hopes that new investors who are involved will still come from the textile sector so that the industry can continue. This is because textiles is a labor-intensive industry where many workers, even tens of thousands, depend on this sector for their livelihood.
Unfortunately, that hope doesn't always come true. Many investors outside of textiles are annexing and turning it into other businesses. As a result, many machines are no longer used.
"Factory goods such as machines are sold, usually for export, because they can be sold abroad. Many of our machines are also sold abroad, to Pakistan and Bangladesh," said Redma.
Signals of the phenomenon of garment factories being sold have indeed been heard for some time. Especially since the tsunami of layoffs in the textile and textile products (TPT) sector. On the site for buying and selling properties, it was observed that ex-garment factories were being sold.
