The Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani expressed her gratitude to all taxpayers who have submitted Annual Tax Returns (SPT) and continue to improve their tax compliance. This is because, as of March 31, 2023, the Directorate General of Taxes had received a total of 12.01 million annual tax returns. "This number has increased compared to the same period last year," said Sri Mulyani via her personal Instagram account on Saturday, April 1, 2023. He revealed that the revenue consisted of 11.68 million annual SPTs for individual taxpayers and 333 thousand SPTs for corporate taxpayers. For individuals, the figure grew by 2.88 percent year on year or yoy. Meanwhile for agencies, annual tax return receipts grew 12.76 percent yoy.
According to Sri Mulyani, the taxes that people pay will help protect the poor and vulnerable from the current global shocks. The benefits of taxes, he said, are present in various daily needs that people may often not be aware of. Among them are energy subsidies, namely fuel, LPG gas, and electricity.
Apart from that, the former Managing Director of the World Bank said that the tax money paid was also used for various social assistance such as basic food cash assistance (BLT). In fact, he said, this year the government is also providing additional assistance in the form of protein to support the fulfillment of nutrition for the poor and vulnerable groups.
By paying taxes, Sri Mulyani assessed that taxpayers had improved the quality of Indonesia's human resources. Until 2022, he noted that there were 35.5 thousand participants who had received an Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) scholarship.
On the other hand, Sri Mulyani said that as much as IDR 472.6 trillion in tax money in 2022 will help millions of Indonesian children to get a proper education. Then the tax money is also used to help 96.7 million Indonesian people get health insurance facilities.
Tax money is also used to finance various health facilities. "Thanks to your taxes too, we can finance the Covid-19 vaccination," he said. According to him, these steps have made the government able to handle the pandemic well, so that now we can return to our normal activities.
Sri Mulyani emphasized that the taxes paid by Indonesian people will continue to be used to develop Indonesia. He also promised the government would continue to maintain the trust that the taxpayers gave.
