The export performance of the Indonesian processing industry fell during the first quarter of 2023. One of the reasons was the drop in exports of shoes and clothing. However, exports of shoes or footwear from Indonesia are still experiencing an increase to several major trading partner countries until March 2023. Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS Imam Machdi said, the biggest decline was for exports of processing industries such as apparel from textiles or convection from the January - March 2022 period of US$ 2.2 billion to US$ 1.74 billion, a decrease of 21.04 %.
Meanwhile, for shoes, especially sports shoes, the export value decreased from US$ 1.55 billion to US$ 1.13 billion in January - March 2023. In addition, there was also a decrease in exports of palm oil from US$ 6.67 billion to US$ 5.92 billion, down 11.34%.
"The decline was quite large in the commodity of palm oil and also textiles and shoes or footwear. So these 3 commodities affected Indonesia's export performance," said Imam during a press conference at his office, Jakarta, Monday (17/4/2023).
