Laying the first stone or groundbreaking was carried out by the government for a textile factory, PT Dongjin Textile Indonesia in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Kendal, Central Java, Friday (18/8). The industrial groundbreaking in this SEZ was different from usual because it was carried out by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto together with Singapore's Minister of Trade and Industry, Gam Ki Yong and delegations from the two countries. The ceremony was carried out after the two of them held The 13th Ministerial Meeting of the Indonesia-Singapore Six Bilateral Economic Working Groups in Semarang, Central Java.
"This is the first time meeting with six working groups and directly followed by a site visit. So, we don't just have meetings, but we also walk the talk," stressed the Coordinating Minister for Airlangga.
Airlangga said, Kendal Industrial Park (KIP), which has been designated as a SEZ, has shown significant progress since it was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in November 2016.
As of July 2023, KIP has attracted 90 investors from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Germany, to Hong Kong by collecting investments of up to US$3.37 billion and creating nearly 30,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, PT Dongjin Textile is one of the main suppliers of shoes and apparel products. This factory is the second building that the company built in Indonesia.
"The establishment of this factory is expected to increase investment and trust in the Industrial Estate and SEZ in Kendal," concluded the Coordinating Minister for Airlangga.
Apart from Airlangga and Gam Ki Yong, the Regent of Kendal, Dico M Ganinduto; Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso; Deputy for Coordinating Regional Development and Spatial Planning at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Deputy for Coordinating International Economic Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, along with the Indonesian-Singapore delegation and the ranks of PT Dongjin Textile Indonesia.
