Retail company PT Matahari Department Store Tbk (LPPF) is collaborating with the Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) textile industry to launch the 'Recycle Your Clothes' program which aims to reduce fashion waste. Matahari CEO Terry O'Connor said, as two industry players in the fashion and textile sectors, recycling used clothes is important. Primarily, to reduce fashion waste in Indonesia. He hopes that the collaboration between Matahari and APR as the main producers of viscose rayon clothing material can complement their joint commitment regarding sustainability.

According to him, it is also important to create an environmentally friendly fashion industry.

"This step is important in reducing fashion waste in Indonesia and is in line with the company's sustainability efforts to contribute to a circular and environmentally friendly fashion industry," he said, Friday (15/9).

In the 'Recycle Your Clothes' program, Matahari facilitates the public, including consumers, to recycle unused clothes. Matahari provides clothing recycling boxes at various outlet locations.

Recycling is easy, consumers only need to come to a Matahari outlet with used clothes. After that, put the clothes into the Drop Box available in front of the outlet or Matahari store.

The 'Recycle Your Clothes' program lasts for 3 months, from 1 September 2023 to 30 November 2023. Matahari has also prepared a bonus in the form of a discount for consumers who recycle their clothes.

"Consumers who put their used clothes in the drop box will get a Matahari shopping voucher in the form of a 25% discount which can be spent on normal priced products at Matahari," explained Terry.

He said that currently the Recycle Your Clothes drop box is available at 46 Matahari outlets. These outlets are spread across Jabodetabek, Medan, Surabaya, Bandung, and in the future there will continue to be more.
