Tanah Abang Market has been known for many years as a distribution center for textiles and textile products (TPT) to various regions, from Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi to Papua. Many traders from various regions buy TPT at Tanah Abang Market to resell in their area. Now, the situation has reversed. Many Tanah Abang traders have been left behind by buyers and even customers, from initially selling on a large scale to now being able to sell a few pieces, they are already grateful. "That kind of atmosphere is much reduced. Regional traders, because they already have a network to production centers in Java, they can order directly from producers directly. There are even convection capital, many also produce themselves," said Tanah Abang Trader Figure Yasril Umar, Thursday (21/9/2023).
The reduction in the supply chain, which now does not involve many Tanah Abang Market traders, has caused turnover to decrease significantly. On the other hand, many traders outside the market sell informally and then take the cake from traders who officially sell at the market.
"What traders complain about is that their purchasing power is very low, then the rise of online trading continues outside the Tanah Abang market, there are informal traders selling in locations around Tanah Abang Market. This has an impact on Tanah Abang traders. Regional traders who usually wholesale at Tanah Abang Market go directly to "non-formal markets around Tanah Abang Market," said Yasril.
"This has been conveyed several times by the government and DPRD until now there has been no response or action. In the past, a proposal was put forward, what if non-formal traders were invited to enter the market? Then they were given easy facilities so they could trade healthily with existing traders, but not now. go," he continued.
