Domestic textile and textile product (TPT) industry players are pessimistic that the school entry season at the beginning of semester II/2022 will bring many blessings. Chairman of the Indonesian Filament Yarn and Fiber Association (APSyFI) Redma Gita Wirawasta estimates that sales of domestically made school uniforms at the beginning of this even semester will not reach 50 percent of the total consumption of textile products in this segment. According to Redma, the re-opening of imported faucets through Minister of Trade Regulation No. 25/2022 concerning Import Policy and Regulations made the country flooded with products, including in the school uniform segment.
"That is a problem. Because our initial calculation of the school uniform segment could be an addition. However, in early March (2022) the Ministry of Trade opened the import faucet so that foreign products flooded," he said, Wednesday (13/7/2022).
He said the impact of the circulation of imported goods on domestic school uniform textile products at the beginning of the even semester was quite significant in eroding the market share of local industries.
The turnover of the school uniform market in Indonesia is about 5 percent of the national textile consumption in 1 year. With a product volume of about 100,000 tons.
School uniform products, he said, began circulating in the market at the end of the second quarter of 2022 or before the start of the new semester in July 2022. Products began circulating in the market at the end of June 2022.
However, the market share of national textile products for the school uniform segment has been eroded by more than half due to the proliferation of imported goods circulating in the country.
"Due to a lot of imported goods, which can be supplied by domestic players is not up to 50 percent. It should be supplied by local products as a whole," he explained.
