The head of the Dharma Wanita Association of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), Nur Asia Uno, assessed that it was time for traditional Indonesian fabrics to go global. Nur supports the presence of a number of Indonesian designers at The Show, as a series of New York Fashion Week 2023 on September 11, 2022. “This is a breakthrough, it's time for Indonesia to go global. We are not inferior to foreign designers," said Nur at the Indonesia NOW press conference for New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023 at Plataran GBK, Central Jakarta, some time ago.

Nur is very supportive of traditional fabrics coming out of Indonesia. "This is something we should be proud of. Indonesian fabrics come out of here," he said.

Through the work of designers, he thinks that Indonesia should start showing existing fabrics, such as batik, weaving, songket, as well as Indonesian music and culinary specialties. "I want (participation in New York Fashion Week) to be sustainable, not just once a year," he said.

In fact, Nur suggested that there should be a store that represents all Indonesian clothes, such as a small version of the Indonesian Square. "I'm still trying to get this in New York in a strategic place," said Nur.

He emphasized that batik, weaving, songket are not owned by other countries. Having a weaving skill that is not easy is a legacy that is impossible for other countries to imitate.

“Young people are advancing, because they have to regenerate. Not only introducing culture but also beauty that covers everything," he said.

Representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the United States gave full support to the needs of the designers during this activity. The Indonesian Embassy in the United States will also support designers who want to expand their market in the United States.

"The opportunity for Indonesian designers to enter the United States market is very wide open, Indonesia's exports to the United States, especially textile products, continue to increase and currently the United States is the second largest trading partner after China," said the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States, Ayu. Hey Rosan.

With the right marketing strategy, Ayu believes that Indonesian works and products can penetrate the US market. Moreover, Ayu thinks that the quality of Indonesian textile products is in accordance with the current tastes of the United States market.
