The textile industry is known as one of the industries that has the most impact on the environment. The large use of hazardous chemicals, the energy spent on production, and the resulting waste are serious problems that need to be addressed. Responding to this, the textile industry is now innovating to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable, one of which is through the invention of the ecoprint technique. Ecoprint is a textile technique that produces patterns or images on fabrics using natural materials such as leaves, flowers and wood.
This technique not only creates beautiful and unique patterns, but also has a positive impact on the environment. Textile Craft Studio Founder, Riki Sugianto is one of the activists who actively organizes workshop classes for people who are interested in learning ecoprint techniques.
"The advantage is that it is definitely 100 percent environmentally friendly," said Riki when interviewed at the Low Carbon Tourism activity organized by the DKI Jakarta Disparekraf, CarbonEthics, Bumi Journey, and Jakarta Good Guide on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
He continued, "Secondly, it's sustainable because these materials are renewable, so we don't destroy them. And all of this, if we throw it away or it's lost or damaged, it will return to nature too."
Riki taught the ecoprint technique on a totebag to Low Carbon Tour participants. "He will also break down the tote bag. That's why we choose materials that are really natural fibers," explained Riki.
