President Joko Widodo or Jokowi formed the Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement Team (Team Gernas BBI). The formation of this team is stated in Presidential Decree No. 15 of 2021 with the team leader being the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Luhut is assisted by three deputy chairmen, namely; Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Furthermore, there is a daily chairman who is held by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency and his deputy is the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises. Then, there are 23 ministers and heads of agencies/institutions who are also members of the team.

"The BBI Gernas Team is under and responsible to the President," reads Article 1 of the Presidential Decree signed by Jokowi.

The BBI Gernas Team has four main tasks as stated in Article 3 of Presidential Decree 15/2021. First, carrying out activities to achieve Gernas BBI targets which include; an increase in the number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) or small and medium industries, including creative economy actors who are included in the digital ecosystem.

Then, an increase in the number of sales or purchases of local products; increasing people's purchasing power, expanding markets, accessing capital, training, collecting data, and accelerating local economic cycles through local product spending; as well as economic stimulus for MSMEs or small and medium-sized industries, including the creative economy players of Gernas BBI in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

The second task is to align the Gernas BBI program with the Gernas BBI public campaign. Third, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the BBI's Gernas targets. Finally, the reporting of data on the development of Gernas BBI

In carrying out its duties, the BBI Gernas Team may involve other ministries/agencies, local governments, associations, industry, professional organizations, academics, and the media. The Head of the BBI Gernas Team can also form working groups as needed.

Article 6 stipulates that the BBI Gernas Team is assisted by a Secretariat led by a Secretary, who is in a work unit at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investments. Acting as secretary, namely; Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.

“All costs needed to carry out the tasks of the BBI Gernas Team are borne by the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN); Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget; and/or other legal and non-binding sources in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations," reads Article 8.
