The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) stated that the textile and footwear industry was under pressure. This is because the traditional industrial markets, namely the United States (US) and Europe, are sluggish. Even so, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the government predicted the global economic downturn would not last long. "It will take until the second quarter of next year to rebound. It's just that until the second quarter, it will be an important momentum to be able to help due to the slumping global economy," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (27/12).

So, he said, the Ministry of Industry had proposed around seven policies to the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy at the Limited Coordination Meeting (Rakortas), to help the textile, footwear and furniture industries. "So a week ago we conducted a coordination meeting chaired by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, we have decided on several steps to help prevent these three sub-sectors from sinking," he said.

Agus said the refusal included the government implementing a goods and prohibition policy (Lartas). That way, there will be goods that are prohibited or restricted for import to Indonesia.

"Friends from the textile industry gave us a message, they don't need financial assistance and anything else, except for the Lartas policy," explained Agus. I continued, the government will not carry out Lartas on all products related to the three industrial sectors above, but will fraudulently lie.

"Because this is urgent, the government will use the available instruments, the fastest we can do. Maybe later the implementation of the policy will only take three to six months, we will see whether global economic conditions have improved or not," he said.

The next suggestion, in order to better monitor goods entering Indonesia, the Ministry of Industry proposes a post border policy to become a border. Border crossing supervision, namely supervision carried out by Customs officers in the customs area, while post border supervision is carried out after leaving the customs area and has circulated in the community which is supervised by supervisors or related institutions.

"Of course not all of them either, but it's wrong based on the HS code later which will be discussed by the technical team, but in principle it's okay. In principle there is no problem," said Agus.

He explained that the two suggestions were the most important. Especially for the textile industry which is experiencing extraordinary pressure, so that it will become the focus of the government's policy.
