The phenomenon of laid-off employees began to emerge in labor-intensive industries, such as textiles and textile products (TPT). Workers say this condition occurs due to decreased demand which makes fewer jobs. As a result, workers have to compromise by working fewer hours. However, the Vice Chief Executive Officer of PT Pan Brothers Tbk Anne Patricia Sutanto claimed that this condition did not occur in all companies.

"Not Pan Brothers," said the Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Textile Association, Tuesday (18/10/2022).

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Indonesian Filament Yarn and Fiber Association (APSyFI) Redma Gita Wirawasta revealed that the domestic textile and textile product (TPT) industry was hit by the many cancellations and cuts in export orders. Meanwhile, the domestic market also did not help much because purchasing power was still weak.

"As a result, many have reduced capacity due to stockpiling. As a result, employees have been laid off. So far, there have been no layoffs, we hope there will be no layoffs. Hopefully, early next year, commodity prices will improve so that the domestic market can sustain it," call Redma.

The threat of job cuts has already begun to be seen in labor-intensive industries. The workers revealed that many of their members had started to reduce their working days, and not even a few were finally laid off.

"Until now, those who have been laid off for a long time, meaning a month without work, at least for nearly 5,000 members, including those in the textile, garment, and shoe industries," said the chairman of the Federation of Textile, Clothing and Leather Workers Unions throughout Indonesia (FSP TSK).
