The "Baur" collection not only marks the eight-year journey of As Far as Eyes to See (SMM) but also consistently carries the concept of slow fashion. There were 29 looks that were displayed in the 2023 Jakarta Fashion Week fashion show which was held at Pondok Indah Mall 3, last Tuesday (25/10/2022). Consisting of a top, kebaya, cloth, and gray-white nuanced items, all made from textiles that are no longer used. The materials used include patchwork left over from production, dead stock fabrics, leftover fabrics from previous exhibitions, and recycled fabrics from clothes that are not fit for use (post-production textile waste).

In the hands of Chitra Subyakto, founder and creative director of SMM, these materials are reprocessed, combined with new yarns, and mixed and matched with new fabrics so that they come back into new creations, beautiful and unique.

Not only from the Far collection, the post-production textile waste was also obtained from the Recycling program as far as collaboration with Ecotouch.

There are also clothes that are not suitable for use sent by Friends so far which are also processed into this latest collection.

This recycling stage begins with sorting materials, removing old buttons and zippers, cutting, chopping, and other processes until they return to yarn.

This recycled yarn is then combined with new cotton yarn as reinforcement and then woven back into cloth.

The Baur production process itself is carried out in various cities including Jakarta and Bandung for the recycling stage, while the weaving of fabrics is carried out in Pekalongan.

In accordance with the circularity business scheme that is upheld, the entire process is carried out using technology that is responsible and involves community empowerment.

"I believe that every individual has an important contribution and role to play in protecting the environment and preventing natural damage, which is a serious issue that we are currently facing," said Chitra Subyakto, in a media statement received by Kompas.com.

"Through the 'Baur' collection, we extend the life cycle of clothing and post-production textile waste so that it does not become perpetual waste," he added.

He admits that he realizes that no product can be completely sustainable but continues to strive to be more responsible, especially to protect the Earth.
