Global garment brands continue to increase the share of recycled or recycled raw materials in production. Some of these brands include H & M, Nike, and Adidas This was stated by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Filament Fiber and Yarn Association (APSyFI) Redma Gita Wirawasta. According to him, big brands such as H & M, Nike, and Adidas every year raise the target of sustainable raw materials in the range of 10-20 percent. "They want the majority of raw materials to be recycled, both polyester and nylon. So, this year, Indorama invests in a polyester recycle factory," said Redma.

PT Indorama Synthetics Tbk. (INDR) this year invested in building a recycle polyester factory with a production capacity of 300,000 tons per year. However, the investment value is unknown.

Besides Indorama, Redma said that currently there is a Japanese company that is rumored to be building a nylon recycle factory with a production capacity of 350,000 per year in the country.

Namely, a subsidiary of a company from Sakura Toray Industries Inc., PT Indonesia Toray Synthetics (ITS), which has the potential to realize investment in 2024. Currently, the investment from the company is still under licensing.

Then, there is an investment from PT Tahatex with a production capacity of 100,000 tons of recycled polyester per year. The company is a partner to a number of major brands, such as H&M, S. Oliver, C&A, Muji, and GU.

The next company that produces using recycled polyester is PT Hatex Indonesia with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year.

The investment trends mentioned above are in line with the direction of the Minister of Industry No. 40/2022 concerning Green Industry Standards for the Textile Refinement and Printing Textile Industry.

There are 9 aspects whose green industry standards are regulated in Permenperin No. 40/2022. This includes raw materials, auxiliary materials, energy, water, production processes, products, packaging, waste, greenhouse gas (ERK) emotions.

Indonesian textile industry players are targeting the use of recycled raw materials to reach 15 percent of total production by 2024. Currently, the use of local raw materials is said to still be 10 percent of total production.
