The Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo) protested the policy of the Minister of Manpower (Menaker), Ida Fauziyah, who had issued Minister of Manpower Regulation (Permenaker) No 18 of 2022 concerning Determination of the 2023 Minimum Wage (UMP). Apindo's Head of Employment and Social Security, Anton Supit, revealed that Ida Fauziyah did not coordinate with employers when drafting the Permenaker. "Actually there is a forum called the National Wage Council. Well, the council should have been spoken to because there are the government, trade unions and workers with the Apindo employers. As far as I know it doesn't seem to be discussed," said Anton, Sunday (27/11).

Even so, Anton felt that the decision was not entirely Ida Fauziyah's fault. Because, said Anton, Ida Fauziyah was only doing her job, especially in managing UMP.

"This is not the decision of the Minister of Manpower alone. I think this is the government's decision, so don't blame it all on Mrs. Ida. Mrs. Ida is just carrying out the government's decision," said Anton.

The pros and cons regarding the Permenaker which regulates the 2023 UMP are indeed in the middle of a polemic. Trisakti University Public Policy Observer, Trubus Rahadiansyah, considers that Permenaker No. 18 of 2022 is inappropriate and contradicts PP regulation No. 36 of 2021 which is a derivative regulation of the Job Creation Law.

"Actually, the Permenaker in my opinion is more political, because it is detrimental to business actors. Due to the 10 percent increase, business actors are currently in a difficult situation because demand for production continues to decline," said Trubus, Sunday (20/11).

Currently, said Trubus, the regional and national economies are not conducive. He considered that this condition would increase the possibility of companies going out of business, especially in labor-intensive industries such as manufacturing.

"Especially those that are most pitiful to manufacturing companies, such as textiles and shoes. So, in my opinion, this increase will be detrimental to business actors, obviously not supporting economic recovery," said Trubus.
