Trade unions that are members of the Nusantara Trade Union Confederation or KSPN will carry out an action at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta on Monday (1/5/2023) to commemorate International Labor Day, also known as May Day. KSPN President Ristadi said tens of thousands of KSPN workers would take to the streets to take action. KSPN members who are on the island of Java will be focused in front of the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, while those outside Java will carry out demonstrations at the local provincial government center.
"In the May Day 2023 action, KSPN Nusantara voiced several issues that are currently being demanded by workers," said Ristadi through his official statement, Wednesday (26/4/2023).
First, the KSPN rejected the issuance of Law No. 6/2023 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulation No. 2/2022 concerning Job Creation Becomes Law, and demands to be repealed because it is considered not in favor of workers in Indonesia.
Second, they demand an improvement in the wage system that can guarantee welfare for workers in Indonesia, as well as the enforcement of labor law that guarantees protection for workers in Indonesia.
The next demand is to stop the import of textile goods and textile products (TPT) which has resulted in tens of thousands of workers in this sector being laid off and the threat of further layoffs for millions of workers in the TPT sector.
Apart from that, they also asked the government to revoke Permenaker No. 5/2023 concerning Adjustment of Working Time and Wages in Certain Export-Oriented Labor-Intensive Industrial Companies Affected by Changes in the Global Economy.
According to them, this rule is not a solution to the textile industry crisis. On the contrary, this regulation actually has the potential to create discrimination and social inequality for workers. The fourth demand is to conduct a legal compliance audit for all foreign companies in Indonesia.
This demand arose due to the rise in cases of work accidents, violations of work rules, suppression of freedom of association, commotions and fights between foreign workers (TKA) and local workers which led to fatalities, as well as other problems.
In their demands, they asked the government to act decisively against foreign companies in order to comply with existing laws in Indonesia.
"If you don't comply with the law, we ask that the company be closed down because this also concerns the dignity of the nation's sovereignty, not to be trampled on by foreigners," he concluded.
