The Nusantara Trade Union Confederation (KSPN) alluded to the distribution or sale of used clothes and imported clothes at low prices in the country. The President of the KSPN, Rustadi, revealed that the circulation of these goods had reduced the production performance of the Textile and Textile Products (TPT) industry in Indonesia. Then, this effect continued with the rise of layoffs (PHK). This is done by companies for the sake of efficiency. "Yesterday (there was a policy) to stop used clothes or thrifting, that's a small part. But most of them are not used, but the price is cheaper, so domestic products are destroyed," Ristadi said when met at the action agenda workers' demonstration in the Jakarta Horse Statue area, Monday (1/5/2023).

"So we are concerned. The majority of our members are in the TPT sector, so we issued a statement to stop importing textile goods, both legal and illegal," he continued.

Rustadi admitted that it was difficult for products made by local industries to compete with prices for products from China to Bangladesh.

It is known that Bangladesh is one of the countries with the smallest wages in the world. So that the product can be sold at a fairly economical price.

"Why are legal (new clothes) stopped, because even legal ones are cheaper. We can't compete with the price of products from China and Bangladesh. This should be a concern for Mr. Jokowi. Otherwise, high unemployment will occur," he explained.

On this occasion, Ristadi also mentioned the layoffs that occurred as a result of the falling demand for TPT products.

Ristadi also encouraged the government to be able to provide solutions as well as policies that defend workers and the TPT industry.

Moreover, it is known, the TPT industry is a labor-intensive industry capable of absorbing a large number of workers.

"So the government must be alert to this situation, because the textile industry is labor-intensive which absorbs the most Indonesian workers, there are millions. Unlike capital-intensive, this must be a serious concern for Pak Jokowi," he concluded.
