The Confederation of National Workers Union (KSPN) said that to date, thousands of employees in the footwear and textile industries have been affected by layoffs from the fourth quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023. Based on KSPN records, the majority of companies that took layoffs were in West Java, such as Tangerang and Bandung, and Central Java, such as Solo Raya and Pekalongan. "There are a lot of textiles that are closed, yes, but they don't report it to the labor service, let alone us, because layoffs based on an agreement or resigning are not required to report," said General Chair of the National Trade Union Confederation (KSPN) Rustadi, Wednesday (31/ 5/2023).

Rustadi further explained that currently his party is handling layoff cases of 3,000 employees from companies located in Pekalongan, Central Java, namely PT Kaban and PT Pismatex. Then there were PT Agungtex Group and PT Duniatex which laid off 5 thousand of their employees.

"We are also still handling around 5 thousand, many of whom have been laid off until the resignation process, some have been laid off and have not been re-employed at PT Duniatex and PT Agungtex Group," he continued.

In addition, layoffs also occurred in the Bandung area, until the first quarter of 2023 KSPN was handling layoff complaints from PT Adetex which laid off hundreds of employees. In fact, according to Rustadi, the company has stopped producing since 3 years ago.

"Then in the Bandung area we are dealing with PT Adetex, indeed the company has long since run out, we are handling hundreds of employees, the condition of this company is also growing and falling," said Rustadi.

In addition, the KSPN is currently handling the case of employee layoffs that occurred at PT Binacitra Kharisma Lestari, which is located in Bandung, West Java. This industry is engaged in the garment sector. Until the first quarter, there were at least 2 thousand employees who were affected by layoffs.

"That's only recorded by us, not yet by other unions, then not to mention those who don't report, if the efficiency of those who are laid off is much more, I can be sure that 50-80% of textile factories are reducing their employees and working hours," he concluded.
