Apart from Sofjan Wanandi, who was not happy about the addition of the Eid al-Adha holiday, other businessmen have the same attitude. According to employers, too long additional holidays are detrimental to the business world, especially the manufacturing sector. General Chair of the Association of Indonesian Exporters (GPEI) Benny Soetrisno also said that the long holidays, especially the additional joint leave, were detrimental to business actors, especially manufacturers. "Oh my gosh, world market again, readjust after covid, competition is getting tougher, regarding quality, delivery, ultimately price, if this holiday is how serious we are, if kicked out of the market, it's not easy to return to the market," Benny told CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (20/6/2023).
He illustrated that when production is hampered due to many holidays, it will have an impact on the delivery of goods, especially those based on exports. It's like a food seller who doesn't sell on holidays, while his customers are forced to buy from competitors, potentially losing customers.
Not to mention the effect of added production costs due to the additional long holidays. According to him, the cost of overtime pay is progressive.
"So you pay overtime, production costs go up, when the machine is on, then the energy is on again, more energy is added, causing an increase in costs. Moreover, the scheduled logistics transport schedule around the world," he said.
Benny said that currently his factory which produces textiles in Semarang is pursuing market demand in Europe and America, if there is a long holiday it will be affected.
"My factory has to work overtime because of the long holiday later, I'm chasing the US and Europe," he said.
