The Indonesian Textile Association (API) proposed strengthening regulations on the clothing sector. API Chairman Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmadja said that the ecosystem for the textile industry and textile products (TPT) is urgently needed because the textile industry chain is quite long. Starting from the fiber industry to the apparel industry. According to him, the textile industry needs protection. Moreover, the textile industry absorbs a lot of labor. API notes, direct workers in the textile industry are around 4 million workers and indirect workers are around 7 million workers.

API member Iwan Lukminto added, in other countries the clothing or textile sector is regulated in a separate law. Because the textile industry is the sector that creates the fastest employment opportunities.

Iwan explained the urgency of forming laws related to textiles because the textile sector is fairly complex from upstream to downstream. Starting from the manufacture of fiber, cotton, thread, cloth, fabric coloring, to convection.

"This has its own problems that we must collectively regulate holistically," said Iwan in the RDPU with the Legislature of the DPR, Thursday (22/6).

Iwan gave an example, the yarn industry and fiber industry are facing difficulties in exporting to India. This is because India requires that Indonesian factories/companies must have a certificate from the Indian authorities.

Therefore, apart from proposing regulations, API also proposes the formation of a Clothing Agency to maintain the sustainability of the domestic textile industry ecosystem and textile products.
