The Indonesian textile and textile product industry has not only been affected by the onslaught of Chinese products, but has also been squeezed by import duty policies in the United States (US) and China. This was revealed by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Monday (10/7/2023). Airlangga revealed that Indonesian textiles were subject to import duties of between 12-15% in the European Union and the United States (US).
"And this is not imposed on countries like Bangladesh or Vietnam," said Airlangga.
If this trade barrier can be reduced, Indonesia's exports can increase. Therefore, Indonesia will concentrate on finalizing the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union.
"If this can be signed, it is hoped that the market will be more open. Likewise with the United States, we are currently discussing the Indo Pacific Economic Framework," said Airlangga.
With this effort, trade barriers in these countries can be overcome.
Furthermore, Airlangga estimates that the textile industry and textile products will revive in the future. Of course, the government will pay attention to developments in the sector's financing, availability of raw materials to market depth.
