History
Tanah Abang Market was founded around 1734 AD by Justin Vinck. The VOC official originally intended to build a market with the permission of the Dutch Governor-General Abrahan Patramini.
The Tanah Abang market was originally built very simply and only sold textiles and grocery items. Previously, Tanah Abang Market was only open on Saturdays, so it was called the Saturday Market.
In 1926, the Batavian government dismantled the Tanah Abang Market and replaced it with a permanent building. The Tanah Abang Market is getting more advanced after the Tanah Abang Train Station.
Yustinus Vinck, a member of the Dutch East Indies Council who at that time owned a lot of land in Batavia. From the large amount of land owned by Vinck, two large markets were built, namely Pasar Senen and Tanah Abang which were inaugurated simultaneously on 30 August 1735.
