Textile products created by the nation's children will penetrate foreign markets. Threads of Indonesia which will be held on 11–13 September 2023 in Cape Town is an opportunity for Indonesian textiles and textile products (TPT) to capture the huge potential in the South African market. Quoted from the page kemlu.go.id, Threads of Indonesia was organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria together with the Indonesian Consulate General in Cape Town and the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Johannesburg. This event consists of a series of activities such as fashion shows, business matching, talk shows, and market and company visits.

The implementation of Threads of Indonesia seeks to encourage Indonesia to enter the ranks of CTFL (Clothing, Textile, Footwear and Leather) suppliers in South Africa. Moreover, Indonesia is the sixth largest textile producer in the world.

Show Indonesian literature

In the fashion show and business matching activity which took place on September 11 2023, two Indonesian designers, namely Anita Gathmir and Jessica Febiani, displayed various works that featured Indonesian textiles as the basic material.

Through her Puta Dino Kayangan brand, Anita brings a collection made from Tidore woven fabric called Motif Tuan Guru. Meanwhile, Jessica brand Jessica Moretosee presents a collection using batik fabric which is called Act Globally-Love Locally.

A total of 60 invitees who attended the Mount Nelson Hotel were mostly buyers or potential buyers from various companies and retailers. They reportedly enjoyed the collections presented.

What happens if batik cloth is combined with South African shweshwe cloth? This unique combination of two types of fabric has previously been worked on by young Indonesian and South African designers through a film entitled Stories of Hope.

The film is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria together with ITPC Johannesburg and TFG, the largest retail company in South Africa. Kiba Bam from TFG expressed his appreciation for the success of the work. On the same occasion, he stated that he would explore sustainable batik making with producers in Indonesia.

Threads of Indonesia also connects buyers with 29 other Indonesian supplies virtually. They have sent product samples for buyers in Cape Town to see directly. A number of potential transactions were reportedly successfully realized from this business matching activity.
